The Spring Valley Timberwolves fell behind 18-0 and never recovered as they fell to the top seed Spring Mills Cardinals, 92-51, on Friday in the Class AAAA semifinals at the Charleston Civic Center.
Spring Mills (23-1) jumped out quickly, scoring the first 18 points of the game and led 27-12 at the end of the first quarter. The Cardinals kept up the heat in the second quarter and led 46-26 at the half.
The Cardinals kept up the onslaught in the second half, taking a commanding 70-41 advantage after three quarters. Spring Mills continued to stretch out the lead to the final margin.

Spring Mills set a West Virginia State Tournament record by hitting 18 three-point field goals. The Cardinals shot 18-of-31 from behind the arc for 58.1%.
Clay Robertson led Spring Valley (20-3) with 17 points. Harrison Riggs followed with 14 points. Colton Caldwell had 8 points. Jalyn Abercrombie scored 6 points. Keyan Grayson had 4 points. Mason Williamson finished with 2 points.
Akwasi Opoku-Achampong paced the Cardinals with 24 points. Caleb Thomas finished with 22 points and 17 rebounds.
