The Huntington St Joe Fighting Irish saw their season come to an end as they fell to Greater Beckley Christian, 60-52, on Thursday in the Class A quarterfinals at the Charleston Civic Center.
Greater Beckley Christian (16-8) jumped out of the gate quickly, racing out to a 14-9 lead at the end of the first period. St Joe (16-8), bounced back in the second quarter and cut GBC’s advantage to 26-24 at the intermission.
Greater Beckley Christian slightly extended the lead out to 42-37 after the third period. St Joe couldn’t quite catch up down the stretch as GBC advanced to the semifinals.

“Greater Beckley is a tough match up,” said Irish head coach Todd Maynard. “That’s a great team. We just didn’t do enough to get it done. We gave up too many second chance opportunities. We have a young team. We are optimistic about that. We’re going to continue to work. These guys want to work. This will fuel these guys to get better.”
Isaiah Sanders led St Joe with 20 points. Micaiah Ehirim followed with 18 points. Noah Keaton added 7 points. Cylis Allen netted 6 points. Brayden McDowell finished with 1 point.
For GBC, 6’7″ Drew Fitzwater scored 22 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in the win.
