Hot Shooting Lifts Westside Past Doddridge County In Class AA Quarterfinals

The 3rd seed Westside Renegades shot 54.4% from the field, including a 12-of-24 effort from behind the arc, as they rolled past the 6th seed Doddgridge County Bulldogs, 83-53, on Tuesday morning in the Class AA quarterfinals at the Charleston Civic Center.

The Renegades (17-5) came out hot, jumping out to a 20-12 first quarter advantage. They kept up the hot shooting and outscored the Bulldoogs (20-5), 17-9, in the period to take a commanding 37-21 lead into the locker room at the half.

Any hope that Doddridge County had of a comeback was crushed in the third quarter as Westside increased its advantage to 64-37. From there, the Renegades kept the gas on and picked up the dominating win.

“This is what these guys have been working hard to do, and I am proud of them,” said Westside head coach Nick Cook. “They shot it well today. It seemed like everything that left their hands was going in. I’d like to have more of that on Thursday.”

Kadien Vance led the Renegades with 26 points. Coltin Lester followed with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Austin Bishop had 14 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Bryson Blankenship had 11 points, grabbed 9 boards and dished out 5 assists. Kyler Kenneda fired in 5 points. Hendrix Cook had 4 points Bradyn Waldron and Breyden Vance scored 3 points each. Brayden Bishop finished with 2 points.

Doddridge County was led by Josh DeHaven’s 20 points. Landon Thomas had 13 points in the loss.

Westside will play on Thursday morning in the Class AA semifinals against 2nd seed Wheeling Central Catholic. The opening tip is set for 11:15 am.
