Lady Wildcats’ Season Ends In State Tournament In Loss To Charleston Catholic

The 6th seed Logan Lady Wildcats (17-7) struggled from the floor as they fell to 3rd seed Charleston Catholic, 45-35, on Tuesday in the opening round of the West Virginia Girls Class AA State Tournament at the Charleston Civic Center.

Charleston Catholic (18-6) jumped out of the gate quickly, hitting 3 three-point field goals to take a 15-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. Logan struggled from the field in the second quarter, scoring only 4 points and no shots made from the field. Charleston Catholic led 21-14 at the intermission.

The Lady Wildcats fought back in the third period and took the lead, but Charleston Catholic retook the lead late in the frame and carried a 30-29 advantage into the final quarter.

Logan struggled to score in the 4th quarter as the Lady Wildcats only hit 2 shots from the floor as Charleston Catholic pulled away.

“We knew that Charleston Catholic was going to be a hard game,” said Logan head coach Mike Tothe. “We got back into it in the third quarter, which was huge. We got the momentum and crowd behind us a little bit. But then coming down the stretch they made shots and we didn’t. Sometimes the ball doesn’t bounce your way, and today was one of those days.”

Payton Butcher paced the Lady Wildcats with 12 points. Bam Mosby followed with 10 points and 5 steals. Halle Crouse added 6 points and 4 steals. Addyson Amick had 5 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Kayden Compton finished with 2 points.

Congratulations to the Lady Wildcats on a fantastic season!
