Funding Needed For Tug Valley Baseball/Softball Indoor Facility

Tug Valley has been putting in a lot of effort to build up its baseball and softball programs for a while, but the two programs always ran into one glaring issue – facilities.

In recent years, new baseball and softball fields have been put into use in Naugatuck, but the school still lacked a proper indoor building to use when the weather was not cooperative. That may soon change.

Currently, a 124-foot long, 42-foot wide build with a 14-foot ceiling is up, but money is needed for the project to be completed. With that space, there is enough room for two 14-foot wide, 70-foot long batting cages that are 12-foot tall. It will also have one middle pitching lane and two bathrooms.

Until February 18 all donations raised up to $2,500 will be matched by the Modern Woodmen of America. Any money raised beyond that will go toward a new septic system for the building. The initial pricing for that is $2,000. Any additional funding will go toward supplying heating and cooling to the building.

“The age old adage holds true in that sports athletes are made in the off-season,” said former assistant baseball coach, school liason and concerned parent Randy Lackey. “And it’s no more apparent in baseball and softball. Unfortunately due to the time of the offseason, accessibility is limited. This building will allow TVHS to more ably compete against every other team they face as they are one of very few teams that do not have a winter facility.”

For more information on how to help, contact Randy Lackey on Facebook or donate through the school, at the school or through Lackey.
