Panthers Defeat County Rival Mingo Central

The 2nd ranked (Class A) Tug Valley Panthers move to 7-2 on the season as they defeated county rival Mingo Central, 70-54, on Saturday up on Miner Mountain.

The Panthers jumped out of the gate quickly by forcing some turnovers and turning them into baskets. Braydun Ferris recorded 13 points in the quarter as Tug Valley held a large 32-12 lead.

Mingo Central (2-7) battled back a bit in the first part of the second quarter. Kendan Trent scored 9 points for the Miners in the period, but the Panthers were able to withstand the run and stretched the lead back out to 18 at the half, 43-25.

The Panthers stretched the advantage out in the third quarter to take a 66-37 lead into the fourth quarter. The Miners tried to make a run in the last quarter, but the Panther lead was too big, and Tug Valley left Miner Mountain with the win.

Ferris led the Panthers with 18 points, 6 assists and 3 steals. Kaden Hale followed with 13 points. Bryson Elia added 9 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Cameron Slone scored 9 points. Carson Newsome had 8 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Ashton Davis scored 7 points and dished out 4 assists. Ethan Ferrell finished with 6 points.

For the Miners, Trent scored 17 points to lead the way. Brody Dotson and Caden Porter scored 10 points each. Aidan Burke dropped in 6 points. Bo Hatfield and Logan Barker added 4 points each. Mattox Sartin finished with 3 points.

Tug Valley is next scheduled to play at Logan on Tuesday. Mingo Central is set to travel to Wyoming East on Saturday.
