The 3rd ranked (Class A) Tug Valley Lady Panthers picked up good wins on Friday and Saturday to move to 12-2 on the season and solidify themselves as a contender for the title.
Tug Valley – 41
Ripley -37
The Lady Panthers overcame a halftime deficit to pick up the 41-37 win over the Class AAA Ripley Lady Vikings on Friday at East Fairmont.
Tug Valley outscored Ripley 6-3 in the opening period, but the Lady Vikings took the lead in the second period and held a 19-15 advantage at the intermission.
The Lady Panthers battled back in the third period and took a slim 28-26 lead into the fourth quarter. During the final frame both teams went back and forth, but it was Tug Valley squeezing out the win.
Bailee Hall led the Lady Panthers with 14 points. Haven Deskins followed with 10 points. Kenzie Browning scored 8 points. Katelynn Richardson recorded 5 points. Katie Hall finished with 4 points.
Tug Valley – 60
River View – 33
The Lady Panthers broke open a tied game with a monster third quarter as they defeated 7th ranked (Class A) River View, 60-33, on Friday at the Williamson Fieldhouse.
After Tug Valley took a 7-5 lead after the first period, River View battled to tie it up at 16-16 at the intermission.
Whatever Tug Valley head coach Seth Ooten said at the half must have worked as the Lady Panthers exploded for 34 points in the third quarter to take a 50-25 lead heading into the fourth quarter. From there, the Lady Panthers were able to hold off River View to give them their second win over a ranked team this week.
The Lady Panthers are next scheduled to play on Thursday when they host Shelby Valley.
