The 2nd ranked (Class A) Tug Valley Panthers ended a two-game losing streak with a huge 77-64 win over 3rd ranked (Class AA) Williamstown in the Willie Akers Classic on Friday at Willie Akers Arena in Logan.
The Panthers (5-2) jumped out to a 25-16 lead after the opening quarter. Kaden Hale fired in 10 points in the period while Braydun Ferris scored 8 points to help Tug Valley take the early advantage.
Williamstown (4-2) chipped into the lead a bit in the second frame, but the Panthers took a 34-27 advantage into the locker room at the half.
Tug Valley stretched the lead out to 51-38 after the third quarter. Carson Newsome scored 6 points in the quarter to lead the Panthers.
Both teams piled on the points in the final period, scoring 26 apiece. Parker Schramm scored 14 points in the quarter to lead Williamstown, but Ferris and Newsome had 6 points each in the quarter as the Panthers held on for the win.
Hale paced Tug Valley with 19 points. Ferris had 18 points and dished out 11 assists. Newsome followed with 16 points. Bryson Elia dropped in 10 points. Ethan Ferrell and Ashton Davis scored 7 points each in the win.
Schramm led Williamstown with 29 points while shooting 9-of-13 from three-point range. Cruz Isaly followed with 19 points in the loss.
Tug Valley is scheduled to play Van at home on Tuesday.
