The Tolsia Rebels took a step toward earning a playoff bid as they defeated the visiting Hurley, VA Rebels, 42-20, on Friday in Glenhayes.
Tolsia (6-2) took the lead early in the second quarter when Robert Evans scored on a 12-yard run. Evans added a conversion run to make it 8-6. After Hurley regained the lead, Evans came calling again on a 24-yard run. Luke Williamson then scored on the conversion run to take a 16-14 lead.
Tolsia took the lead for good in the third period when Evans found the end zone from 4 yards out. Dakota Blackburn’s conversion run made it a 24-20 lead.
Evans took control in the fourth quarter with three more touchdowns. First, he scored on a 19-yard run. A few minutes later, he scampered into the end zone from 32 yards out. He provided the final scoring margin on a 28-yard run.
In all, Robert Evans had 25 carries for 276 yards and all 6 Tolsia touchdowns. He also caught 1 pass for 4 yards.
Luke Williamson completed 3-of-8 passes for 14 yards.
Dakota Blackburn had 5 carries for 17 yards and 2 receptions for 10 yards. Dylan Stroud had 1 carry for 2 yards.
Defensively, Dylan Stroud led the way with 11 tackles. Robert Evans and Chase Thompson had 7 tackles each.
The Tolsia Rebels will continue their playoff push this Friday when they host visiting Grundy, VA. This will be a huge game for Tolsia. Grundy is considered to be Class AA in West Virginia’s ratings system and would give Tolsia almost a certain playoff berth with a win.
