The Belfry Pirates moved to 4-2 on the season as they shut out the visiting Magoffin County Hornets, 41-0, on Saturday.
Belfry was playing without the services of quarterback Chase Varney. Sophomore Tristan Chapman handled those duties.
The Pirates got on the scoreboard late in the first quarter when JJ Austin broke free on a 46-yard touchdown run. Nick Savage’s PAT kick made it a 7-0 lead.
Austin came calling again in the second period on a 10-yard run to increase the lead to 14-0. Jameson Chaffin then intercepted a Hornet pass and raced 60 yards into the end zone to increase the lead to 21-0 at the half.
In the third period, Chapman then completed a 12-yard pass to JB Woolum for another touchdown and increased the lead to 28-0. Ace Caudill increased the advantage to 35-0 late in the third period. Kane Caudill added the final score late in the final quarter for the final margin.
Austin led Belfry with 7 carries for 126 yards and 2 touchdowns. Chaffin had 4 carries for 30 yards. Woolum had 2 carries for 28 yards. Kane Caudill added 17 yards and 1 touchdown on 4 carries. Hunter Hylton finished with 1 carry for 17 yards. Ace Caudill had 2 rushing attempts for 16 yards and 1 touchdown.
Chapman completed 5-of-6 passes for 80 yards and 1 touchdown.
Cayden Varney caught 3 passes for 57 yards. Woolum had 2 receptions for 23 yards and 1 touchdown.
Belfry will travel to Lawrence County on Friday in a big clash with the Bulldogs. Magoffin County (1-5) will next travel to Powell County.
