The Mingo Central Miners scored 24 unanswered points in the second half as they picked up a big win over the Man Hillbillies, 30-7, on Friday up on Miner Mountain.
The Miners (2-2) got rolling in the first quarter when Jacob Maynard intercepted a pass to set up a 16-yard touchdown pass from Aidan Burke to Keziah Joplin. The conversion run failed, and Mingo Central held a 6-0 advantage.
Neither team scored the rest of the first half, but Man (2-2) took the lead when Devon Sanders connected with Trey Ward on a 38-yard touchdown pass. The PAT Kick gave the Hillbillies a 7-6 lead with 7:53 left in the third period.
Mingo Central regained the lead late in the third period when Jaxon Nenni-Mills scored on a 1-yard run. Nenni-Mills also added the conversion run to give the Miners a 14-7 lead after three quarters.
In the fourth quarter, Dylan Vance scored on a 3-yard run to increase Mingo Central’s lead to 20-7. Jace “Bam” Coleman then broke free for a 36-yard touchdown run. Burke’s conversion pass to Joplin made extended the Mingo Central lead to 28-7. A minute later, the Miner defense caused a fumble that went out of the back of the end zone for the final total of 30-7.
Burke completed 8-of-15 passes for 43 yards and 1 touchdown. He also carried the ball 14 times for 4 yards.
Dylan Vance had 19 carries for 115 yards and 1 touchdown. Coleman had 83 yards and 1 touchdown on 6 carries. Donavon Valdelamar carried the ball 3 times for 18 yards. Nenni-Mills had 1 carry for 1 yard and 1 touchdown.
Joplin led the Miners with 38 receiving yards and 1 touchdown on 4 catches.
For Man, Sanders completed 10-of-21 passes for 83 yards, 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions.
Ward caught 6 passes for 80 yards and 1 touchdown. Dusten Baisden had 8 carries for 9 yards.
Mingo Central will host Point Pleasant on Friday night. Man will next travel to Greenbrier West.
