Vance Leads Miners To First Win Of Season

The Mingo Central Miners got five touchdowns from Dylan Vance as they got their first win of the season in a 46-20 drubbing of the Liberty-Raleigh Raiders on Friday on Miner Mountain.

Vance got the game going as he scored on a 28-yard early in the first quarter for a 6-0 lead. Vance scored again a few minutes later on a 4-yard scamper. He then added the conversion run to make it a 14-0 advantage for the Miners. Vance then got on the board with a defensive touchdown as he recovered a fumble in the end zone to make it a 20-0 lead in the opening quarter.

Mingo Central then added to the advantage right before the end of the first half when Aidan Burke connected with Vance for 33-yard touchdown pass, pushing the advantage to 26-0 at the half.

After the Raiders cut the lead to 26-8 in the third quarter, Burke broke free on a 32-yard touchdown run. Jaxon Nenni-Mills then scored on the conversion run to make the score 34-8.

Liberty-Raleigh then cut into the lead in the fourth quarter, but Vance scored again, this time on a 47-yard jaunt. Donavon Valdelamar added another 47-yard touchdown run to make it a 46-14 lead. Liberty-Raleigh tacked on a late score in the closing seconds.

Vance had 8 carries for 108 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also caught 1 pass for 33 yards and 1 touchdown while scoring another touchdown on a defensive fumble recovery. Valdelamar had 1 carry for 47 yards and 1 touchdown. Jace “Bam” Coleman picked up 30 yards and 4 rushing attempts. Keziah Joplin had 1 carry for 19 yards.

Burke completed 7-of-12 passes for 107 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception. He also had 11 carries for 95 yards and 1 touchdown.

Keziah Joplin led the Miner receivers with 5 catches for 55 yards. Bo Hatfield caught 1 pass for 19 yards.

The Miners (1-2) next play on Friday when they face the Man Hillbillies (2-1) at Buck Harless Stadium on Miner Mountain.
