Pike County Bowl Preview: Martin County Looks To Bounce Back Against Pike County Central

The Martin County Cardinals lost a 9-6 heart breaker to the Pike County Central Hawks in last season’s Pike County Bowl. This year, the Cardinals get another chance to take down the Hawks on Friday at 6 pm at Haywood Stadium.

The Cardinals, coached by Josh Muncy, had a rough start to the season as they fell at Hazard, 51-20. Still, there were some bright spots in that game.

Quarterback Devan Maynard completed 6-of-14 passes for 141 yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. He also carried the ball 15 times for 94 yards and 1 touchdown.

Brayden Estep led Cardinal receivers with 94 yards and 2 touchdowns and 3 receptions.

Crayson Lafferty had a monster game in defeat on defense with 16 tackles, including 1 sack.

Pike County Central, coached by Scott Grizzle, started off the season with a 20-14 win at West Carter.

Jamere Knuckles had a great game, completing 3-of-3 passes for 75 yards and 1 touchdown. He also had 9 carries for 52 yards and 1 touchdown.

Tyler Thompson led the rushing attack with 74 yards on 12 carries. Keonatae Jeffries had 1 catch for 54 yards and 1 touchdown.

This should be a big clash involving two very good local programs. You’ll want to see this one!
