Kadien Vance hit a driving lay up and then had a big block in the closing seconds as Westside defeated D&D Mountain Elite, 63-61, at Martin County High School in Inez on Saturday.
After D&D Mountain Elite took a 31-30 lead at the end of the first half, the two teams went back and forth throughout the second half.
Westside took the lead late on an Austin Bishop 3-pointer. D&D Mountain Elite had five straight points from Peyton Davis as he and Westside’s Coltin Lester traded baskets to make it 61-61 before Vance’s heroics in the final seconds.
Davis, Walker Russell and Jaxon Estridge all played well for D&D Mountain Elite and Sackey Sefa brought the crowd to its feet with several electrifying dunks.
For Westside, it was a great showing as they will come into the season as a force in Class AA.
