One thing the people of the Mountains are passionate about is basketball. Now, they have a new team to cheer for. The OPB Swish will bring area fans high caliber semi-pro basketball to the area.
Sheldon Clark alum Carla Booth is bringing the OPB Swish to the area with a huge mission.
“The first women’s Semi Pro team in Eastern Ky is the 2024 OnPoint Swish,” said Booth. “The OPB Swish is more than just a basketball team. We are a community of passionate athletes dedicated to promoting women’s empowerment, sportsmanship and excellence both on and off the court. Our team provides a platform for talented female athletes to showcase their skills, pursue their dreams and inspire others to do the same.”
The Swish is a member of the Women’s American Basketball Association or WABA. The WABA was founded in 2017 and is a sister league of the current ABA. There are currently 16 teams in the league, and the Swish are set to compete in the South Division. The Swish are scheduled to play home games at Martin County High School.
The roster brings in a lot of talent, many with local roots. Some even have WNBA experience.
