The Scott Skyhawks fended off elimination as the extended the Class AA Region IV championship to a third game with a 5-1 win over the Winfield Generals on Tuesday in West Madison.
After Winfield’s Karson Frye hit a solo homer in the top of the 1st inning, Scott controlled the rest of the game. The Skyhawks took the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the 1st inning when Luke Knight scored on a wild pitch and Kedron Elkins drove home Carter McClung with a single.
Scott’s lead grew to 4-1 in the bottom of the 3rd inning. First, Louden White scored on an error and Austin Light drove home McClung with a single. Elkins drove home the Skyhawks’ final run in the bottom of the 5th inning with a double to bring home Jason Ferrell.
Elkins finished with a double, a single and 2 RBIs. White recorded 2 singles. Hayden Johnson had a double. Ferrell and Light finished with a single and 1 RBI. Knight added a single.
Johnson got the win after allowing 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 6 batters over 5.2 innings pitched.
Scott and Winfield will face each other in one last game on Wednesday with the winner advancing to the state tournament. The opening pitch is set for 6:30 pm in Winfield.
