Chief Logan Recreational Center Expanding To Give Region A Fantastic Comprehensive Sports Facility

The Chief Logan Recreational Center is preparing to put in turf on two fields that are a part of a plan to make the facility a destination for athletic and educational events.

Once completed, the facility, managed by Chief Logan Recreation Center, Inc., will offer two fully lit and turfed baseball and softball fields for boys up to 12 years old and girls to college. In addition to those features, the center is adding an additional building.

When fully finished, the facility would have portable floors and be capable of hosting events with four indoor tennis courts, four indoor volleyball courts and four indoor basketball courts, depending on the set up needed. It would meet the WVSSAC requirement for an auxiliary gym.

In addition, the facility is building a mezzanine area and expanding the weight room. The mezzanine will have pool tables, corn hole and other things for families to enjoy.

Golfing simulators will be added, as well as a technology called Active Wall. An Active Wall senses a ball when making contact. This brings both an educational and exercise part to the facility where students could potentially play games, such as needing to throw a ball and hitting the right answer to a question.

The center already hosts a 25 meter pool that could be used for swimming competitions as well. It is one of the few pools its size in West Virginia.

This facility will feature opportunities for those and the community and beyond to experience all of these and more features when fully completed. It will be a great opportunity for possible events to attract people from outside of the area to stay and eat in Logan County.

There are also possibilities for local youth and recreational leagues to enjoy what is offered. It truly will be a gem in the coal fields.

It’s an exciting time, and it will be fun to see what the center eventually brings to the area.
