The Man Hillbillies continued their strong start with a 5-4 win over Brockport, NY on Thursday at North Myrtle Beach High School.
The Hillbillies (8-2) got on the board first in the top of the 1st inning when Braxton Messer singled home Bo Thompson and Landon Cantrell for a 2-0 lead.
Brockport then exploded for 4 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning to take a 4-2 lead.
Man cut the advantage to 4-3 in the top of the 4th inning when Brayden Compton scored on a Brockport error. The Hillbillies rallied to go ahead in the top of the 5th inning. First, Messer doubled home Gavin Bartram to make it a 4-4 game. Then, Messer scored the winning run on a Hunter Gibson ground out.
Thompson got the win on the mound after allowing only 1 hit and striking out 9 batters.
Messer recorded a double, 2 singles and 3 RBIs in the win. Gibson added a double and 1 RBI. Thompson, Cantrell and Compton all recorded singles.
The Hillbillies are scheduled to play Richlands, VA on Friday at North Myrtle Beach High School.
