The Logan Wildcats (16-10) saw their season come to an end as they fell, 62-35, to the East Fairmont Bees (19-7) in the opening round of the Class AAA State Tournament on Tuesday at the Charleston Civic Center.
East Fairmont came out clicking in the opening quarter and took a 16-8 lead on a Jackson Crouso basket at the buzzer. The Wildcats cut the lead to 24-20 with just over a minute left in the half, but a 5-0 run from the Bees extended the advantage to 29-20 at the intermission.
East Fairmont’s lead grew to 43-25 in the third period as Drew Moore hit a 3-pointer as time expired for the Bees. Julius Clancy threw down a thunderous dunk for the Wildcats early in the fourth quarter, but the Bees pulled away down the stretch.
“East Fairmont’s size gave us issues,” said Logan head coach Jeff Williamson. “They played a great game. We just didn’t shoot the ball well. That’s how we’ve really been successful this year. Just tonight they didn’t fall. Hats off to them. Our guys played hard. We just didn’t play well enough.”
Cole Blankenship and Zayden Sherod led Logan with 8 points each. McCormick Ilderton followed with 5 points. Clancy and Matt Hatfield added 4 points each. Ivan Miller and Devin Maynard finished with 3 points apiece.
East Fairmont was led by the 6’7″ Crouso with 22 points, 13 rebounds and 3 blocks.
