Wayne Powers Past Keyser In A Record-Breaking Performance

The Wayne Lady Pioneers were firing on all cylinders as they rocked the Keyser Golden Tornado, 75-38, on Tuesday at in the opening round of the Class AAA State Tournament.

Wayne came out clicking in the first period. After two Addie Adkins 3-pointers and another 3-pointer at the buzzer, the Lady Pioneers held a 19-8 lead after the first period. The Lady Pioneers broke the game open in the second period as Addie Adkins hit three more shots from long distance, giving Wayne a 38-16 lead at the intermission.

Wayne kept up the pace in the third period as the lead remained at 22 points, 50-28. The Lady Pioneers were able to close out the game from there.

Addie Adkins’ eight 3-point field goals set a record for the Class AAA State Tournament, and Wayne’s 16 field goals from 3-point range set the team record in that category. Brooke Adkins also scored her 1,000th point in the contest.

Jayce Sammons led the Lady Pioneers in scoring with 25 points, including shooting 6-of-11 from beyond the arc. Addie Adkins followed with 24 points on 8-of-11 shooting from 3-point range. Brooke Adkins had 10 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Laneigh Brooks had 6 points and 8 rebounds. Mikayla Stacy also had 6 points. Kinley Runyon and Braylee Ramey scored 2 points each.

Wayne will next play Nitro in the semifinal round on Thursday at 11:15 am.
