The Logan Wildcats (15-9) jumped out to a 19-2 lead after the first quarter and held on for the remainder of the game as they defeated the Wayne Pioneers (10-12) to win the sectional title, 51-38, on Friday at Willie Akers Arena in Logan.
Wayne closed Logan’s lead to 25-14 at the intermission, but the Wildcats were able to hold on in the second half.
Matt Hatfield led the Wildcats with 22 points. Ivan Miller followed with 10 points. McCormick Ilderton scored 7 points. Julius Clancy, Cole Blankenship and Zayden Sherod finished with 4 points each.
Isaac Meddings paced the Pioneers with 14 points. Colton Heck, Ronnie Staley and Zane Adkins had 6 points apiece. Peyton Marcum scored 3 points. Andrew Dotson had 2 points. Kamron Christian chipped in 1 point.
Logan will host Ripley in the regional Co-championship. Wayne will travel to Nitro for its regional Co-championship game. Both contests will be on Wednesday.
