Panthers Beat Rebels For Third Time To Claim Sectional Crown

The Tug Valley Panthers (18-6) earned the Class A Region IV Section 1 championship with a 71-43 win over the Tolsia Rebels (15-9) on Friday in Naugatuck. It was the third time that the Panthers had beaten the Rebels this season.

Tug Valley jumped out of the gate and took a 21-12 lead after the first period. Tolsia cut into the Panthers’ lead a little in the second quarter, but an Ashton Davis layup just before the half gave Tug Valley a 33-25 advantage at the intermission.

The Panthers took full control in the third period by outscoring Tolsia, 26-7, in the frame to take a 59-32 lead into the final quarter. Tug Valley would coast from there.

Davis led the way for Tug Valley with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Kaden Hale followed with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Braydun Ferris had 14 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Bryson Elia added 8 points. Buddy Marcum netted 6 points. Carson Newsome scored 4 points. Brady Brewer finished with 3 points.

For Tolsia, Parker Watts set the pace with 20 points. Bryson Muncy followed with 12 points. Evan Ball scored 3 points. Dakota Blackburn, Brady Vance, Robert Evans and CJ Waller chipped in with 2 points each.

Tug Valley will host Wahama in the Region IV Co-championship. Tolsia will face host Huntington St Joe in the other regional co-championship. Both games are on Tuesday.
