Kevin Moses Corner: Kyra McAlarnis

Kyra McAlarnis @mcalarniskyra , 5’10”, 145 , Perry County Central High School, KY is a fierce triple threat scoring option. She has strong handles and is crafty getting downhill. Kyra is an imposing force that can play through contact and physical play. With unlimited range , Kyra can really bring the rain from the parking lot. She can get in the seams and punish the defense and can drop some sweet dimes. She’s a beast on the boards and an outstanding defender.

Kyra averaged 15.5 points and 6.3 rebounds as a Sophomore shooting 40.7% and was very unhappy with how that season ended. She stepped up her training with focus and determination to improve her game. With a relentless work ethic, Kyra worked tirelessly to elevate her game.

Kyra used AAU to gain valuable experience and build her confidence in her abilities. Playing with KBE, a local team with players from the 12th and 13th region, Kyra found her niche and began to excel at playing the point guard position. Kyra led her team to several tournament wins as the engine that drove them in Ohio, Knoxville, Gatlinburg and Louisville holding her own against well-known programs. Kyra finished the summer with the 2025 WV Thunder Select 40 team, playing for them in The Run for the Roses Tournament at the Spooky Nook Circuit in Pennsylvania. Playing with a shot clock and experiencing that level of play opened up new areas of her game and increased her passion and IQ as she played more of a shooting guard for this team.

Kyra will play for the Kentucky Premier Elite 40-NE2K this AAU session. Kyra’s biggest improvement was her physical strength which increased her confidence and abilities. The goal going into this season was to win District, Region and compete for a state title.

This season, Kyra celebrated scoring 1,000 career points while grabbing 500 rebounds. After 27 games played, she is averaging 20.6 points and 7.4 rebounds as a point guard, shooting 44.2%. Among the best in the state in several categories – shooting percentage , 3- point% by going 58/159 for 36.5% and 119/150 on free throws and a blistering 79.3% there. Kyra has helped this team to a 17-10 record so far while earning 2A-All tournament team, WYMT All-Tourney Team, Roy Bowling Player of the Game, Big Lou Player of the Game, and Mark and Will Show Kentucky High School Player of the Week.

What separates Kyra from others is her passion for hard work and commitment to improve. Kyra feels her jump shot Kyra would consider playing any division just has to be the right fit.
