That Chapmanville (15-6) Tigers broke a tight game open in the third period on the way to a 68-51 win over the Mingo Central Miners (5-14) on Miner Mountain on Tuesday.
The Tigers jumped out to a 16-6 lead after the first quarter before the Miners started battling back. Ethan Thomason had four 3-pointers in the first half to pull Mingo Central within three points before Joey Gollihue drilled a 3-point basket at the buzzer to give the Tigers a 31-25 lead at the intermission.
Chapmanville quickly extended its lead early in the third period and held a 52-39 advantage heading into the fourth quarter. The Miners were never able to cut into the Tigers’ lead as they picked up the road win.
Cam Blevins led the way for the Tigers with 22 points. Joey Gollihue and Zion Blevins scored 15 points each. Drew Berry fired in 7 points. Benji Adkins had 3 points. Trenton Adkins and Jett Baisden finished with 2 points each.
The Tigers next play on Friday at Scott. Mingo Central hosts Wyoming East on Friday.
