The 10th ranked (Class AAA) Logan Wildcats jumped ahead early and never gave up the lead as they picked up a 67-55 win over third ranked (Class A) Tug Valley Panthers in Naugatuck on Saturday.
Logan (9-9), jumped out of the gate quickly, taking a 20-9 advantage behind 8 points from Cole Blankenship and 7 points from Julius Clancy. The Panthers (14-4) went on a run in the second period and cut Logan’s lead to six points, but the Wildcats finished strong and took a 35-23 lead into the locker room at the half.
All through the second half, every time that Tug Valley got any momentum it was quickly extinguished by Logan. The Wildcats led 44-34 entering the final period. Blankenship then helped them close out the game in the final stretch with some clutch free throws.
Blankenship led Logan with 25 points. Matt Hatfield followed with 12 points. Julius Clancy and Zayden Sherrod scored 10 points each. McCormick Ilderton added 7 points. Devin Maynard finished with 3 points.
For Tug Valley, Kaden Hale led the way with 19 points. Carson Newsome followed with 14 points off the bench. Braydun Ferris had 9 points. Buddy Marcum scored 7 points. Ashton Davis recorded 4 points. Bryson Elia chipped in with 2 points.
Logan will next play at home on Tuesday against Winfield. Tug Valley will travel on Tuesday to play Man.
