The Pike County Central Hawks took control in the second quarter and never relented as they defeated the Tug Valley Panthers, 67-46, on Friday in the Hatfield-McCoy Shootout at the Williamson Field House.
The Hawks (13-7) jumped out quickly and took a 15-10 advantage after the opening period. Pike County Central extended the lead at the intermission to 38-17. The lead grew to 57-23 after three periods, and the Hawks cruised from there as the Panthers (12-2) could not catch up.
Jaden Stewart led Pike County Central with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Jaylan Rigdon followed with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Blake Adams scored 13 points. Jack Slone and Brad Biliter had 4 points each. Grant Hall netted 3 points. Peyton Owens and Jamere Knuckles fired in 2 points apiece in the win.
For Tug Valley, Braydun Ferris led the way with 19 points. Bryson Elia followed with 7 points. Buddy Marcum had 6 points and 9 rebounds. Ashton Davis and Kaden Hale netted 5 points each. Carson Newsome chipped in 4 points.
Pike County Central and Tug Valley will both return to action on Saturday in the Hatfield-McCoy Shootout. The Hawks will battle South Charleston. The Panthers will face Martin County.
