The Pikeville Panthers (10-3) got 27 points from Charlie Fitzer as they defeated the Martin County Cardinals (10-8) for the 15th Region All A Championship, 73-62, on Sunday at Appalachian Wireless Arena in Pikeville.
The Panthers jumped out early in the first quarter and took an 18-10 lead behind 9 points from Eli Johnson. The two teams played evenly in the second quarter as Pikeville maintained its lead and took a 31-23 lead into the locker room at the half.
Fitzer got going in the third frame by scoring 10 points and the Panthers extended their lead out to 54-43. Despite 9 points in the final quarter by Peyton Davis, the Cardinals could not catch up as Pikeville celebrated the win.
Johnson followed Fitzer’s 27 points with 13 points of his own for the Panthers. Heath Jarrell added 12 points. Carter Hurley recorded 9 points. Ian Onkst fired in 8 points. Josh Hughes chipped in 4 points.
Martin County was led by Jacob Sturgell and Luke Hale with 17 points each. Davis followed with 13 points. Brayden McKenzie netted 6 points. Bryson Dials recorded 5 points. Devan Maynard finished with 4 points.
Pikeville will next play at Shelby Valley on Monday at 7:30 pm. Martin County is scheduled to play at Paintsville on Friday at 7:30 pm.
