Cameron Blevins fired in 28 points as the Chapmanville Tigers got a signature overtime win over last year’s Virginia state runners-up George Wythe, 75-70, on Saturday in Bristol, VA.
The Tigers (8-5) started off hot as Cameron Blevins scored 13 points in the opening quarter to help Chapmanville take a 22-14 lead. George Wythe flexed its muscle and outscored the Tigers, 24-13, the second quarter to take a 38-35 lead into the locker room at the half. George Wythe (9-4) continued to stretch out its league in the third frame and took a 54-43 lead heading into the final quarter.
Chapmanville put the clamps on in the final quarter and tied the game up at 60-60 to head into overtime behind 6 points in the quarter from both Cameron Blevins and Zion Blevins. In the extra session, the Tigers were able secure the win with Zion Blevins and Joey Gollihue scoring 6 points each in the extra period, including some clutch free throws from Gollihue.
Zion Blevins followed Cameron Blevins with 18 points. Gollihue added 15 points. Benji Adkins netted 7 points. Sam Miller scored 4 points. Drew Berry finished with 3 points.
Reed Kirtner led George Wythe with 22 points. David Goode followed with 17 points.
The Tigers will next play at Herbert Hoover on Tuesday. The opening tip is set for 7 pm.
