The Chapmanville Tigers moved to 5-5 on the season as they picked up a 71-55 win on the road against a plucky Wayne Pioneers squad.
The two teams came out of the gate pretty evenly in the early part of the first quarter, but two Joey Gollihue 3-point field goals put the Tigers up 12-6. Chapmanville held a 15-12 advantage after the first quarter as Cooper Adkins got a few big buckets for the Pioners.
The Tigers pulled away a little in the second frame and used their length to hurt the Pioneers on both ends of the floor. Chapmanville got a late basket from Zion Blevins to make the score 32-22 at the intermission.
Gollihue and Wayne’s Isaac Meddings came out hot early in the third period, hitting some big shots. Blevins also got going for Chapmanville and started to put his stamp on the game as the Tigers stretched out their lead to 51-38 after three periods.
In the fourth quarter, Wayne (2-8) would put together runs, but Chapmanville always had an answer, and the Tigers gave themselves a little breathing room to get the win.
Gollihue scored 27 points, including seven 3-point field goals to lead Chapmanville and become the Mingua Beef Jerky Player of the Game. Blevins followed with 21 points. Benji Adkins scored 18 points. Drew Berry finished with 5 points.
Cooper Adkins led Wayne with 18 points. Meddings followed with 16 points. Zane Adkins added 11 points. Ronnie Staley scored 8 points. Colton Heck chipped in with 2 points.
Chapmanville will return home on Wednesday and host the visiting Scott Skyhawks. The opening tip is set for 7 pm. Wayne hosts Grace Christian on Saturday at 7 pm.
