The Tug Valley Panthers jumped ahead early and never let up as they defeated the Huntington St Joe Fighting Irish, 74-54, on Friday in the 2nd Annual Kaydence Maynard Christmas Tournament at Tug Valley High School in Naugatuck.
The Panthers (3-0) hopped out to a 17-10 lead behind nine first quarter points from Kaden Hale. Tug Valley’s lead continued to increase during the second quarter as the Panthers carried a 38-27 lead into the locker room at intermission.
Tug Valley extended its lead through the third period by outscoring the Irish (2-4), 17-9, and taking a 55-36 advantage heading into the final period. The Panthers kept control in the fourth quarter for the final score.
Braydun Ferris led the way for the Panthers with 18 points and 8 assists. Hale followed with 17 points, including 5-of-6 shooting from 3-point range. Ashton Davis added 14 points. Bryson Elia recorded 13 points. Buddy Marcum had 8 points and 8 rebounds. Brady Brewer and Carson Newsome finished with 2 points each.
St Joe was paced by Miciah Ehrim and Grady Paynter with 14 points each. Gavin Polan netted 11 points. Nymir Bryant and Isiah Sanders fired in 6 points apiece. Carter Woelfel finished with 3 points.
The Irish will battle Chesapeake, OH during the second day of the Kaydence Maynard Christmas Tournament at Tug Valley High School on Saturday. The opening tip is set for 5:30 pm.
