The Rowan County Vikings traveled to Raceland to take on the Lady Rams. Raceland was on a three-game winning streak, and the Vikings were looking to win their 2nd consecutive game and get above .500 on the season. The two 16th region teams would battle back and forth to the very end.
A very close 1st quarter would be the theme of the entire game. The Vikings led 19-17 after the first quarter. The Lady Rams would race out in the 2nd quarter and quickly grab a 20-19 lead on a Lexi Boggs three. The Lady Rams would outscore the Vikings 18-13 in the second quarter to take a 35-32 lead into halftime.
The Lady Rams came out after intermission and were looking to pull away and sink the Vikings. The Lady Rams would build a 49-40 lead late in the 3rd quarter. However, the Vikings refused to go down without a fight. The Vikings would respond with a 7-2 run to close the quarter to cut the lead to 51-47 going into the fourth.
The Vikings started the fourth quarter in the same fashion they closed the third quarter, with a 6-0 run to start the final stanza, and took a 53-51 lead. The Vikings closed out the quarter strong, outscoring the Lady Rams 14-10 the rest of the way to secure the 67-61 victory.
Both teams had some great individual performances. The Lady Rams had 3 players to score 15 or more points. Led by Kennedy Taylor with 20 points and 7 rebounds (both team highs). Naomi Maynard added 17 points and 4 rebounds. Carley Boyd had 15 points and 3 rebounds in the loss.
The Vikings had 4 players to score 10 or more points. Kassi Perkins led the way with 22 points and 7 rebounds. Diamond Wills just missed a double-double with 15 points and 9 rebounds. Kelbie Ford had 11 points in the win. Lauryn Eastham nearly had a double-double also, with 10 points and 9 rebounds. The
Lady Rams are now 4-2 on the season. The Vikings improve to 4-3 on the season.
Rowan County is back in action on Dec. 18th when they travel to Bath County for a 6:30 p.m. tipoff.
Raceland returns to action on Dec. 21st with they play Johnson Central at Bath County in the Mike Bromagen Ladycats Legend Tournament. Tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
