The 4th ranked (Class A) Tug Valley Panthers flexed their muscle on Friday in a 78-51 season opening win over the Westside Renegades on Friday in Naugatuck.
The Panthers (1-0) jumped out of the gate quickly, taking a 22-10 lead in the opening period. The advantage grew to 48-15 at the intermission after Tug Valley blew the game open by outscoring Westside, 26-5, in the second frame. The Panthers coasted from there.
Braydun Ferris led Tug Valley with 26 points, 6 assists and 4 steals. Ashton Davis followed with 21 points and 6 rebounds. Kaden Hale fired in 9 points. Bryson Elia scored 8 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Aiden Armstrong scored 3 points. Cameron Stafford, Dereck Jewell, Cameron Slone, Carson Newsome and Jace Hale chipped in 2 points each. Evan Bryant finished with 1 point.
For Westside (1-1), Brayden French led the way with 17 points. Austin Bishop followed with 16 points. Coltin Lester fired in 8 points. Brayden Bishop added 6 points. Kadien Vance and Ethan Walls each finished with 2 points.
Tug Valley will play next Friday in a clash at arch rival Tolsia. The opening tip is set for 7:30 pm at Tolsia High School.
Westside will host Liberty-Raleigh on Wednesday at 7:30 pm.
