The Perry County Central Commodores advanced to the championship game of the WYMT Mountain Classic with an 80-68 win of the Floyd Central Jaguars in Knott County on Friday.
Floyd Central took an early 18-16 lead after the opening frame, but Perry County Central outscored the Jaguars, 24-18, in the second period to take a 40-36 lead into the locker room at the half.
The two teams kept trading blows in the third period with the Commodores holding a 59-53 lead heading into the final frame. Perry County Central pulled away down the stretch to secure the win.
Trayten Woods led the way for the Commodores with 18 points. Kizer Slone followed with 17 points. SLONE also scored his 1,000th career point in the contest. Carter Castle fired in 15 points. Rydge Beverly dropped in 12 points. Tyson Neace scored 10 points. Mason Summer added 4 points. Landon Miller and Tyler Robinson finished with 2 points each.
For Floyd Central, Ronnie Sammons led the way with 22 points. Braden Moore scored 12 points. Dylan Boyd fired in 11 points. Chris Spriggs chipped in 9 points. Dawson Moore and Brody Buck chipped in 6 points each.
The Commodores will next play the Harlan County Black Bears, an 86-76 winner over Martin County in the other semifinal, in the championship game on Saturday. South Carolina signee Trent Noah scored 54 points for Harlan County in the win.
