The Morgan County Cougars would get the season started with a win over the Powell County Pirates, 67-62. The Cougars would use a balanced scoring attack that would see 4 Cougars score in double-figures.
Both teams shot well from the field. Powell County would make 21 of 49 shots from the field, including 6 of 17 from beyond the arc. The Cougars shot 24 of 54 from the field, including going 10 of 30 from beyond the arc.
The Pirates were led by an impressive effort from Bryson Edwards. Edwards scored 24 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in the loss. Brayden Brandenburg would be the only other Pirate to score in double-figures with 14 points and grabbed a team-high 9 rebounds. Cameron Delrosario would go 2 for 2 beyond the arc and finished with 8 points. Jack Rose had 8 points. Daylan Williams finished with 5 points and Dylan Carter had 3 points in the loss.
Cameron Adams would go 3 of 6 from behind the arc and finished with a team-high 17 points for the Cougars. Adams also pulled down 9 rebounds for the Cougars. Logan Spencer finished with 13 points. Gatlin Griffith had 12 points and 5 rebounds for the Cougars. Preston Hoskins would also score in double-figures with 10 points and pulled down 8 rebounds in the victory for the Cougars. Eli Griffith added 7 points, Asher Gamble had 5 points, and Allen Justice had 3 points to round out the scoring for the Cougars.
Powell County will look to bounce back when they travel to Williamstown on Thursday, November 30th. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
Morgan County will be back in action on Saturday, December 2nd when they host the Lawrence County Bulldogs. Tipoff is set for 1:30 p.m. for that game.
