The UPike Bears traveled all the way to Waleska, Georgia to take on the Reinhardt Eagles in their 5th game of the season. The Bears held off the Eagles 96-84 and extended their win streak to four. This gave them a record of 4-1 on the season with their only loss of the season coming from Union College.
UPike had control of the game for the majority of the time as they were able to give themselves a 54-39 lead at the half. This was the result of their amazing shooting on the night as they went 61% from the field and 56% from 3 as a team.
UPike was led by sophomore guard Keian Worrix, who was able to score 24 points with an additional 7 assists and 2 steals. Worrix only attempted 8 shots this game and got half of his points from the charity stripe as he was able to knock down 12 free throws. Grad student Korbin Spencer had an incredible night from behind the arc. Spencer shot 4-of-4 on his 3-point attempts and was able to rack in 20 points for the Bears. Junior guard Kyonte Thomas was also scoring well for the Bears as he had 19 points on 53% shooting from the field while also recording 3 steals on the defensive end. The Bears were able to get good production from their bench as well. Senior Jeremy Dillion was able to get 14 points while shooting 67% from the 3-point line.
The Eagles senior forward Tyler Smith led all scorers with 27 points on the night. The Eagles now fall to 1-4 and will face UPike again on January 16th, 2024 at the Appalachian Wireless Arena in Pikeville.
The Bears are now 4-1 on the season and are on a four game win streak. They will next play Truett McConnell University on Tuesday at Appalachian Wireless Arena. The UPike Women’s basketball team will play first at 5:30 pm and then at 7:30 pm the UPike Men’s team will take the floor and attempt to continue their win streak.
