Scott’s Season Ends In Heart Breaker Against Weir

The Scott Skyhawks saw their season come to an end as they fell to the Weir Red Riders, 35-33 in the final minute on Saturday in West Madison.

The Skyhawks (10-2) jumped up early when Preston Cooper scored on a 1-yard run for a 7-0 lead. The advantage crew to 14-0 later in the period when Caden Sutphen scored on a 5-yard run.

Weir (11-1) got onto the scoreboard in the second period when Malachi Stromile connected with Damir Mowder on a 74-yard touchdown to make it a 14-7 score at the intermission.

Weir then scored early in the third quarter on a 6-yard Stromile run to make it 14-14.

The Skyhawks made the score 20-14 when Matt Frye found Cooper for a 32-yard touchdown pass.

The Red Riders then marched down the field and took a 21-20 lead on a short Corey Lyons touchdown run.

Scott retook the lead with about 9 minutes left when Frye found Brayden Clark in the end zone to make it a 26-21 lead.

Weir answered back as Stromile threw a pass to Devan Colson who broke tackles and took it 85 yards for a touchdown and 28-26 Red Rider lead. Weir found itself trying to run out the clock in the fourth quarter when Stromile was intercepted by Scott’s Carter McClung.

The Skyhawks took advantage as Fry scrambled into the end zone from 4-yards out to give Scott a 33-28 lead with 2:29 left.

Weir quickly went on the march down the field and Stromile found Lyons over the middle for a 12-yard touchdown with 34 seconds left to give the Red Riders a 35-33 lead that they would never relinquish.

Frye had 302 yards passing with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. He also had a rushing touchdown. Cooper rushed for 113 yards and 1 touchdown.

Stromile passed for 265 yards, 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. He also had 69 yards rushing with 1 touchdown.
