West Virginia Playoff Preview: Scott Host Weir With Semifinal Berth At Stake

The 4th seed (Class AA) Scott Skyhawks look to advance into the semifinal round when they host the 5th seed Weir Red Riders.

Scott (10-1) Avenged a late season loss last week by defeating Nitro, 27-0, in the opening round. Star quarterback Matt Frye didn’t have one of his usual eye-popping stat lines, but he did throw for 3 touchdown passes and 57 yards on 7-of-17 passing. Look for Frye to have a much bigger role this week for the Skyhawks.

Preston Cooper will continue to lead Scott’s ground game. He picked up 149 yards and 1 touchdown on 30 rushing attempts last week.

Carson Brinegar is the Skyhawks’ leading receiver with 78 catches for 1,296 yards and 12 touchdowns. Brayden Clark is a big play wide receiver with 849 yards and 9 touchdowns on 29 catches. Isaiah Bush has 32 catches for 602 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Weir (10-1) defeated Frankfort, 23-21, in the opening round.

The Red Riders were led by talented running back Corey Lyons who carried the ball 20 times for 140 yards and 3 touchdowns. Weir quarterback Malaki Stromile is also a dangerous rusher and had 12 carries for 76 yards in the opening round win.

This could be the best game in West Virginia this week. You don’t want to miss it.

The opening kick is set for 1:30 pm on Saturday in West Madison.
