The Ashland Blazer Tomcats came out and took care of business in the first round of the playoffs. Using a balanced attack, the Tomcats steamrolled the Thorobreds of Harrison County, 56-14.
Harrison County would strike first, when Kaydon Custard connected with Taylor Conway for a 66-yard touchdown pass. After the 2-point conversion failed, the Thorobreds led 6-0.
Ashland would get on the board after a 19-yard Cam Davis run. After the PAT, the Tomcats took the 7-6 lead and never looked back.
Five minutes later, the Tomcats would strike again. This time, Davis would run it in from 6-yards out and after the PAT, the Tomcats led 14-6.
The Tomcats would add 28 points in the 2nd quarter. LaBryant Strader connected with Braxton Jennings for a 24-yard touchdown pass and the Tomcats led 21-6. Atayveon Thomas would then break loose for a 17-yard touchdown run for the Tomcats. Three minutes later, Strader would connect with Davis for a 48-yard touchdown pass.
Then, just 17 seconds later, Strader connected with Brandon Houston for a 24-yard touchdown pass, and the Tomcats would take a 42-6 lead into halftime.
The third quarter would feature much of the same from the Tomcats. Strader would find Nate Freize for a 1-yard touchdown pass at the 8:00 mark in the 3rd quarter to push the lead to 49-6. With 12 seconds remaining in the 3rd quarter, Asher Adkins would cross the goal line for the Tomcats and pushed the lead to 56-6.
Harrison County would score in the 4th quarter when Custard connected with Jaxson Zink for a 31-yard touchdown pass. The Thorobreds would convert the 2-point conversion, and that would be the final, 56-14, with the Tomcats advancing to the next round of the playoffs.
The Thorobreds’ season comes to an end with the loss. Kaydon Custard would finish the game having completed 13 of 29 passes for 162 yards and 2 touchdowns. Custard also ran 15 times for 68 yards. Taylor Conway had 3 receptions for 93 yards and 1 touchdown. Jaxson Zink had 6 receptions for 43 yards and 1 touchdown.
The Tomcats advance to the next round of the playoffs. LaBryant Strader completed 11 of 13 passes for 206 yards and 3 touchdowns. Atayveon Thomas had 5 carries for 89 yards and 1 touchdown. Maverick Ashby had 4 carries for 41 yards. Cameron Davis had 2 carries for 29 yards and 2 touchdowns. Asher Adkins had 1 carry for 23 yards and a touchdown. Braxton Jennings had 4 receptions for 71 yards and a touchdown. Cameron Davis had 2 receptions for 57 yards and a touchdown. Brandon Houston had 1 reception for 24 yards and a touchdown. Nate Freize had 2 receptions for 9 yards and a touchdown.
Ashland Blazer (10-1) will travel to Covington Catholic (11-0) on Friday, Nov. 10th.
