Written By: JMF

The Ashland Blazer Tomcats (8-0) have looked like a well-oiled machine this season. Their closest game of the season was the season-opener against Raceland, a game the Tomcats won 28-21. Since then they have beat their opponents by 21 or more points in each game. In the last 4 games, the Tomcats are only allowing 8 points per game.

The Johnson Central Eagles (6-3) have won two straight games and 5 of their last 6. Since a 34-6 loss to Corbin, the Eagles have only given up a total of 21 points in their last 2 games. That game was also their worst game of the season offensively. In the past two games the Eagles have put up a total of 76 points.

The Eagles rely heavy on the run. The Eagles are averaging 322.3 rushing yards per game and have scored 35 rushing touchdowns this season. Carter Conley has 109 carries for 778 yards and 7 touchdowns this season. Christian Barnes has 125 carries for 712 yards and 9 rushing touchdowns. Logan Music has 54 carries for 532 yards and 5 touchdowns. Logan Morrow has 85 carries for 447 yards and 7 touchdowns.

The Eagles QB, Jacob Grimm has only attempted 37 passes this season. Grimm has completed 19 passes for 456 yards and 5 touchdowns. The Eagles are only averaging 50.7 passing yards per game this season. Grimm has 20 carries for 133 yards and 3 rushing touchdowns.

The Tomcats are more balanced offensively, although they do rely on the run game more than the passing game. The Tomcats are averaging 261.6 yards per game rushing and 158.9 yards per game passing.

Braxton Jennings leads the Tomcats’ rushing attack. Jennings has 75 carries for 587 yards rushing and 10 rushing touchdowns. Jennings also has a touchdown pass this season. Cameron Davis has 34 carries for 423 yards and 4 touchdowns. Atayveon Thomas has 44 carries for 391 yards and 3 touchdowns. Maverick Ashby has 20 carries for 297 yards and 4 touchdowns. Brandon Houston has 3 rushing touchdowns and LaBryant Strader has 4 rushing touchdowns.

The Tomcats’ passing attack is led by LaBryant Strader. Strader has completed 43 of 65 passes for 962 yards and 12 TDs. Strader is averaging 192.4 yards per game passing. Brandon Houston has 4 passing touchdowns.

Brandon Houston has 18 receptions for 390 yards and 5 touchdown receptions. Asher Adkins has 12 receptions for 239 yards and 5 TDs. Cameron Davis has 13 receptions for 238 yards and 3 TDs. Braxton Jennings has 11 receptions for 232 yards and 3 TDs.

This matchup of two giants should be an exciting game. The Eagles will look to hand the Tomcats their first loss of the season. The Tomcats will look to remain undefeated and exert their dominance. Both teams are hungry and seeking a win. Both teams are currently undefeated in district play. Which team will remain undefeated in the district? You want to head out to Johnson Central this Friday for this game.
