The 8th ranked (Class A) Tug Valley Panthers jumped ahead early and never looked back as they throttled the home standing Mount View Golden Knights, 42-6, on Friday in Welch.
Tug Valley (6-1) wasted no time jumping on top as Buddy Marcum took the opening kick and returned it 65 yards for a touchdown. Aiden Bosserman’s PAT kick made it 7-0. Marcum scored his second touchdown a few minutes later when he caught a 33-yard touchdown pass from Preston May to make it 14-0. The Panthers would score again in the opening quarter when May threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Ashton Davis to make the score 21-0.
The Panthers added to their lead in the second quarter. First, Bryson Elia found the end zone on a 4-yard run to make it 28-0. May then threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Elia to make it a 35-0 game. Tug Valley scored one last time when Adam Slone scored on a 1-yard run.
At the half, both teams agreed to shorten the game to 6 minute quarters with a running clock.
Mount View (1-5) got a 96-yard kickoff return from Zy Martin to start the second half for its only score of the game.
May completed 10-of-12 passes for 158 yards and 3 touchdowns. May also had 2 carries for 12 yards.
Elia led the rushing attack with 58 yards and 1 touchdown on 7 carries. Adam Slone had 38 yards and 1 touchdown on 4 carries. Jarron Holyfield had 3 carries for 19 yards. Austin Smith had 13 yards on 1 carry. Michael Curtis finished with 3 yards on 1 carry.
Cameron Slone led Panther receivers with 59 yards on 3 catches. Davis had 4 catches for 47 yards and 1 touchdown. Marcum caught 2 passes for 38 yards and 1 touchdown. Elia caught 1 pass for 14 yards and 1 touchdown. Smith caught 1 pass for 6 yards.
The Panthers will play next Friday when they travel to Westside for a 7:30 pm start.
