The Matewan Tigers defeated the Burch Bulldogs, 50-12, on Thursday in middle school football action.
For the Tigers (5-1), Peyton Parker had 12 carries for 181 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also completed 2-of-5 passes for 38 yards and 1 touchdown. He scored on two 2-point conversions. He also scored a touchdown on an interception return.
Xavier Sartin recorded 5 carries for 83 yards and 2 touchdowns. Scott Edie had 13 yards receiving and 1 touchdown. Josh Blankenship had a 12-yard touchdown run. Chase Dotson and Slade Fitzwater each scored 2-point conversions.
Defensively, Parker had 10 tackles, 2 fumble recoveries and an interception. Sartin had 7 tackles, 2 fumble recoveries and an interception. Edie and Garon Hinkle each had 5 tackles.
Matewan will next host Lenore on Monday in the Mingo County Football Tournament. Williamson will host Burch in the other game on Monday.
