Martin County’s very own Matt Messer took home first place as he won the the St. Croix Bassmaster Classic at Harris Chain of Lakes in Leesburg, FL on Saturday.
Messer had a two-day total of 39 pounds, 13 ounces and earned the victory by 1 pound, 12 ounces. Messer’s win netted him $42,467 in prize money and an automatic berth in the 2024 Academy Sports + Outdoors Bassmaster Classic presented by Toyota scheduled for March 22-24 on Oklahoma’s Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees.
Messer had a score of 24 pounds, 6 ounces on the first day of the event and then added another 15 pounds, 7 ounces on the final day.
