The Belfry Pirates racked up 300 yards rushing as they blasted the home standing Estill County Engineers, 49-7, on Friday night.
The Pirates (5-3) got off to a hot start with 28 points in the first quarter. Caden Woolum got the scoring started with a 47-yard run. Nick Savage’s PAT kick made it 7-0 with 9:41 left in the first half. Less than two minutes later, Caden Woolum picked off a pass and raced 27 yards into the end zone for a 14-0 lead. Quarterback Chase Varney then completed a pass to Caden Woolum for 76 yards and a touchdown to make it 21-0 with 5:36 left in the first quarter. With 1:51 left in the first quarter, Ace Caudill scored on a 54-yard run to make it 28-0.
Belfry added to its lead in the second quarter when Hunter Hylton broke free for a 45-yard touchdown run. Varney capped off the scoring in the first half with a 3-yard run with 3:38 left in the quarter to make it 42-0.
With the running clock in the second half, the Pirates scored with 8:58 left in the third quarter on a 63-yard touchdown run from JB Woolum for a 49-0 lead.
Estill County (4-4) finally scored in the fourth quarter when Brady Mainous threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Rose for the 49-7 final score.
For Belfry, JB Woolum led the rushing attack with 109 yards rushing and 1 touchdown on 2 carries. Caudill had 54 yards and 1 touchdown on his only carry. Caden Woolum added 47 yards and 1 touchdown on his only rushing attempt. Hylton had 1 carry for 45 yards and a touchdown.
Varney completed 3-of-4 passes for 113 yards and 1 touchdown. He also had a 3-yard rushing touchdown.
Caden Woolum had 2 catches for 94 yards and 1 touchdown. Caudill had 1 catch for 18 yards.
The Pirates will play next Friday when they host Powell County at 7:30 pm.
