The Perry County Central Commodores hope to rebound from their loss last week as they travel to Letcher County Central and take on the Cougars in a pivotal district game.
The Cougars (4-3) are also coming off a loss. Letcher County Central fell to powerhouse Corbin, 39-14, last week, but that wasn’t the team’s only loss. Cougar star freshman quarterback Gunner Holbrook went down to injury.
This week, the team will rely heavily on leading rusher Isaac Matthews. So far this season, Matthews has rushed for 399 yards and 5 touchdowns on 76 rushing attempts. In addition to Matthews, Quinton Williams and Peyton Combs will also be relied on heavily. The speedy Williams is a big play back who has 25 carries for 242 yards and 6 touchdowns. Combs has 264 yards and 3 touchdowns on 43 carries.
Koby Johnson and Garrett Howard will lead the Cougar defense, as both have 66 tackles so far on the season.
This Cougar team is young after losing so many starters at the end of last season, but they are proving to be contenders. It may be head coach Junior Matthews’ best coaching job yet.
