The Chapmanville Tigers and Wayne Pioneers still have major playoff aspirations, however Friday’s game between the two programs at Chapmanville could go a long way to continue those dreams or watch them evaporate.
Chapmanville (3-3) comes into the game after losing two straight before a bye week. The Tigers have Robert Cook at quarterback. Cook has completed 43-of-83 passes for 637 yards, 3 touchdowns and 1 interception. Cook is also the team’s leading rusher with 284 yards and 3 touchdowns on 65 carries.
Austin Adkins is Cook’s top target, pulling in 21 catches for 485 yards and 1 touchdown. Jeremy Collins has helped in the rushing game with 188 yards and 5 touchdowns on 41 carries.
For Wayne (2-4), the Pioneers have lost 4 tough contests, including three to powerhouses Scott, Winfield and Herbert Hoover. However, Wayne’s strength of schedule still has it firmly in the playoff hunt.
Quarterback Fisher Fry is 52-of-99 on passing for 755 yards, 6 touchdowns and 5 interceptions.
Jaxson Damron and Colton Mathis lead the Pioneer rushing attack. Damron has 358 yards and 5 touchdowns on 65 carries. Mathis has 52 carries for 351 yards and 1 touchdown.
Ronnie Staley is the team’s leading receiver with 290 yards and 2 touchdowns on 17 receptions.
This will be one of the biggest games of the week. Neither team can afford a loss right now. The opening kick is set for 7 pm in Chapmanville.
