Ashland Wins The Battle For The Barrel

Ashland Blazer traveled to Boyd County in the “Battle for the Barrel.” Ashland was undefeated and have been steamrolling through the competition. Boyd County had won two of three and was coming off a blowout victory over Greenup. However, this night, the Tomcats of Ashland would prove to be too much for the Lions of Boyd County. Ashland would triumph and take the Battle for the Barrel by a score of 43-15.

The Tomcats QB, Labryant Strader, would complete 10 of 11 passes for 271 yards and 3 TDs. Asher Adkins caught 4 passes for 147 yards and 3 TDs. Brandon Houston caught 4 passes for 102 yards and 1 TD. Cameron Davis caught 4 passes for 93 yards and 1 TD. Brandon Houston took some snaps at QB and completed 2 of 6 passes for 52 yards and 1 TD. Braxton Jennings also completed 1 of 1 passes for 32 yards and a touchdown.

Braxton Jennings would lead the way in the Tomcats’ rushing attack with 11 rushes for 70 yards Atayveon Thomas ran the ball 8 times for 36 yards. In total the Tomcats completed 13 of 18 passes for 355 yards and 5 passing touchdowns. The Tomcats had 26 rushes for 108 yards.

Defensively the Tomcats were led by Sawyer Edens with 11 tackles, and Jake Sexton who also had 11 tackles. Austin Nichols had 10 tackles. In total the Tomcats recorded 71 tackles that included 4 tackles for loss and 1 sack.

Boyd County’s QB, Rhett Holbrook completed 18 of 30 passes for 214 yards and 1 TD. Rhett also carried the ball 17 times for 74 rushing yards. Dakota Thompson ran the ball 6 times for 20 yards. Garrett Crum caught 7 receptions for 105 yards and 1 TD. Camaron Collins had 3 receptions for 44 yards.

Defensively, the Lions were led by Dakota Thompson with 11 tackles. Erik Germann had 8 tackles. Brody Castle had 7 tackles in the loss. In total the defense recorded 54 tackles including 3 tackles for loss and 1 sack.

Ashland (8-0) has a bye week this week and will return to action on Oct. 20th when they travel to Johnson Central.

Boyd County (3-4) looks to bounce back this coming Friday when they travel to Rowan County for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
