Mingo Central Falls To Pikeview In 4-0 Shutout

Written By: Logan Barker

On Saturday Morning, Mingo Central (5-5) was set to defend their home field against Pikeview (11-2-1). The last time these two teams matched up was at Pikeview, where Mingo Central took a tough 8-1 loss.

Mingo Central was missing its star goalkeeper Mason Hatfield due to an injury he received in a game against Scott about a week ago. This had the Miners looking for someone to fill his position while Hatfield was recovering. The Miners started off with Caleb Simpkins at goalie through the first half and the start of the second half. Simpkins had an abundance of saves on goal while only having 2 goals scored on him. The Defensive Backline played very well helping out the goalkeepers that were subbed in during the game. Caden Porter, Brody Dotson, Jacob Blankenship and Rafael Lopez was there helping out Simpkins through his time at goalie.

After a little bit of time went by in the second half, Simpkins’ time at goalkeeper was over and Autumn White had subbed into the game. She performed very well too and only had 1 goal scored on her while also having multiple saves. She wasn’t the last goalkeeper that was subbed in the game. After about 15 minutes White was subbed out and Blankenship was subbed in to defend their goal. Blakenship with the last 10 minutes of the game had 1 goal scored on him and made some very aggressive saves, diving after every ball that entered the box. In that 10 minutes, senior striker Blake Stacy also suffered an injury that put him out the rest of the game. He is expected to return to the pitch soon.

Mingo Central ended the game with 0 points while allowing 4 goals to Pikeview. Mingo Central is now 5-7 and will head to Lincoln County this Thursday They defeated Lincoln County in the first game of the season, 4-3.

Pikeview is now 12-2-1 and will play Cross Lane Christian at home this Saturday.
