The Magoffin County Hornets (2-5) are coming off a big win over Powell County last week. Aden Barnett was the star of the game. Barnett ran for 78 yards and 2 touchdowns, while completing 5 of 7 passes for 132 yards and throwing 3 touchdown passes. His effort last week earned him the D and D Sports player of the week honors. Barnett and the Hornets hope they can use that big win to propel them to victory over the Lawrence County Bulldogs (4-2).
The Bulldogs are coming off a tough loss to the Belfry Pirates last week. Prior to that loss, the Bulldogs had won 3 straight games. The Bulldogs are looking to bounce back as they welcome the Hornets to the Dawg Pound.
The Bulldogs have score more than 30 points in every game this season except their two losses. In those two games they only managed to score a combined 6 points. During their 3-game winning streak, the Bulldogs were averaging 38.3 points.
Lawrence County is looking to get their offense rolling again this week. The Bulldogs QB, Talan Pollock has completed 37 of 87 passes for 556 yards and 7 touchdowns. Pollock is averaging 111.2 passing yards per game. Talan also has 34 rushing attempts for 66 yards and 2 rushing TDs.
The Bulldogs’ rushing attack is led by Cody Crum who has 79 rushing attempts for 540 yards and 6 rushing TDs. William McDavid has 66 rushes for 364 yards and 3 TDs. The Bulldogs are averaging 195.8 rushing yards per game and they have 14 rushing TDs on the season.
The Hornets are led offensively by Aden Barnett. The Hornets’ QB has completed 10 of 18 passes this season for 230 yards and 6 TDs. Barnett is averaging 76.7 passing yards per game and 2 passing TDs per game. Barnett also has 31 rushing attempts for 191 rushing yards and 2 rushing TDs.
Ian McCarty has 57 rushing attempts for 474 yards and 2 rushing TDs to lead the Hornets rushing attack. The Hornets are averaging 141.9 yards per game rushing. Russell Cruz is leading the Hornets in receptions with 9. Cruz has 152 yards receiving and has caught 2 TD passes. Dayson Burchett has 4 receptions for 87 yards and 3 TDs.
The Hornets will need another strong performance from Barnett if they want to go into Lawrence County and pull off the upset. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
