On 8th Grade Night at Barker Stadium, the Chapmanville Middle School Tigers put on an offensive show as eight different Tigers scored as CMS defeated Wyoming East 62-16.
As the game opened up, it looked like it was going to be a defensive struggle as CMS had forced the Warriors into a punt, but the Warriors’ defense also had backed Chapmanville up to 3rd and 22 on their own 28-yard line. The long down and distance didn’t matter as Dakota Dalton fired a deep ball into the hands of Jacob Vance and the 72-yard touchdown pass opened up the scoring for Chapmanville that wouldn’t stop.
After a miscue on a punt, the Tigers were again in business, this time it only took one play as Jacob Maynard bulldozed his way into the endzone from 21-yards out to make it a 14-0 game. Another bad snap on a punt put Chapmanville back in business on a short field and Jaxton Ellison scampered into the endzone to make it 21-0 Chapmanville.
Following a recovery by Chapmanville on the kickoff return, Chapmanville again turned to Dalton as he was able to find Mattox Sartin from 23-yards out to give Chapmanville a 28-0 lead. On the ensuing kickoff, Wyoming East fumbled and Chapmanville pounced on the ball. The very next play Chapmanville dug into their bag of tricks as a reverse pass from Sartin to Dalton gave Chapmanville a 34-0 lead.
The very next offensive play for the Warriors would continue the scoring for Chapmanville as Jacob Maynard stepped in front of a Cruze Cooper pass and would return it 35-yards into the endzone for pick six to make it 41-0 Chapmanville late in the 2nd quarter.
Wyoming East would drive down the field on the arm of Cooper, but Cooper was then intercepted by Mattox Sartin and Chapmanville would have one more shot to score before the half. The Tigers would be backed up to their own 3-yard line, but that’s when Jaxton Ellison took it 97 yards to the end zone and Chapmanville would take a 48-0 lead into halftime.
The Tigers would add two more touchdowns in the 2nd half as Dalton completed a 20-yard touchdown pass to David Browning to extend the Tigers’ lead to 55-0. Wyoming East would get on the board with its next possession as Jackson Lattie would score from five yards out. Chapmanville’s next touchdown came on the legs of Jacob Evans and then Wyoming East would score one more time Cruze Cooper found Chris Hatfield through the air from 22-yards out to close out the game 62-16 in favor of the Tigers.
As seven different players scored touchdowns for Chapmanville, Ashton McCallahan also added eight extra points in the game as the nationally ranked kicker continues to be impressive on special teams.
With the win, Chapmanville Middle moves to 5-1 on the season with a big game against Oceana Middle School next week for Homecoming. The winner of that game will earn the right to host the Black Diamond Conference Championship Game at the end of the regular season.
