Friday Night Football Preview: Red Devils Look For Third Straight As They Host The Lions

Written By: JMF

The Russell Red Devils (4-3) have won 2 straight and 3 of their last 4 games. Coming off a close win over West Carter last week, the Red Devils return home to host the Lions of Lewis County.

The Lewis County Lions (2-4) were shutout last week at home when they hosted Fleming County. The Lions are looking to bounce back this week and hope they can find the offensive production they had when they scored 50 against Bath County.

The visiting Lions are led by QB, Ayden Cooper. Cooper has completed 65 of 138 passes for 774 yards, 6 TDS, and has only thrown 3 INTs on the season. He is averaging 129 passing yards per game. However, he isn’t one dimensional. Cooper has also carried the ball 52 times for 148 yards and 3 rushing TDs.

The Lions will need to see the best version of Braedyn McGlone this week also. McGlone has 86 carries for 420 yards rushing and 6 TDs. He is averaging 70 yards per game rushing on the season. Two weeks ago, McGlone was the D and D Sports player of the week. The Lions need another monster performance this week to be able to overtake the Red Devils.

Lions’ wideout, Julian Puente has 40 receptions for 457 yards and has caught 5 TD passes this season. Puente is averaging 76.2 passing yards per game this season. Lewis County has struggled defensively this season allowing 30.8 points per game. Russell comes into this game averaging 22.6 points per game. The Red Devils’ put up 53 points in their win over Magoffin, and put up 27 points against Fleming County. The Red Devils are very capable of scoring.

Russell is led by QB, Ethan Pack. Ethan is a dual threat for the Red Devils. Pack has completed 43 of 83 passes for 516 yards and 8 TDs on the season. Ethan has also ran the ball 114 times for 531 rushing yards and 4 rushing TDs. The dual threat QB is averaging 75.9 yards per game rushing and 73.7 yards per game passing.

Last week the Red Devils were without running back, Andre Richardson-Crews. Andre has carried the ball 73 times for 411 yards and 4 TDs in the five games he has played this season.

The Red Devils’ wideout, Parker Mitchell, has 14 receptions for 153 yards and 3 TDs this season.

Red Devils vs. Lions! This should be an exciting game in Russell, KY this weekend. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. this Friday, Oct. 6th.
